Position Title: Program Assistant

Compensation: $20.00/hr, Full-time

Medical Insurance Reimbursement, Sick Leave, Vacation Leave, Paid Federal Holidays,

Under the direction of the Executive Director and the Program Manager, the Program Assistant provides support in maintaining the day-to-day operations of the Eviction Defense Program. This is a temporary position funded by a grant from Kitsap County through September 30, 2025. Funding for this position may be extended.

Duties of Program Assistant:

· Assist walk-ins.

· Respond to intake referrals, client phone calls, and other correspondence.

· Conduct client eligibility screening and interviews.

· Coordinate scheduling with clients and attorneys.

· Prepare case files, including research in Odyssey and LegalServer.

· Ensure that confidential client files and records are appropriately and accurately maintained and updated.

· Connect clients to other community resources.

· Occasional light office cleaning.

· Other duties as assigned by Executive Director and Program Manager.

Required Qualifications:

  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with little to no instruction after the initial training period.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in the workplace. Ability to communicate concerns directly and maintain emotional grounding in or around high-intensity conversations.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (both oral and written), along with demonstrated ability to multi-task, problem solve, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to excel while exposed to secondary trauma. In this job you will regularly be exposed to detailed descriptions of traumatic events and must know how to retain a professional demeanor when forward facing with clients who are in varying levels of distress. You must know how to implement de-escalation and risk mitigation skills in order to avoid worsening Client distress during in-person interactions. You must be able to quickly identify when it is appropriate to step away and ask for guidance from colleagues and/or supervisor(s).
  • Ability to take initiative to find things to do if all tasks are completed and supervisor(s) is not available to direct.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; ability to learn case management systems.
  • Some local travel may be required. Must have reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in non-profits, law firms, or legal aid programs.
  • Experience working with low-income clients and clients from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience participating in or facilitating community based mutual aid OR lived experience advocating for marginalized communities.
  • Ability to converse in a foreign language, especially Spanish.
