March 14, 15, 21, and 22, 2025  – 2025 Washington State Title 26 Guardian Ad Litem Certification Training

Online Only via Zoom

This is the official certification training for Title 26 Guardians ad Litem (GALs) in Washington State and is required in order to apply to be on the Title 26 GAL Registry in your county. This training is for those who are currently not a Title 26 GAL in Washington. This training is for attorneys and non-attorneys, and uses the curriculum developed by the Washington Administrator of the Courts (AOC) in 2018. You must attend all four days of training to receive the certification needed to apply to become a GAL.

Registration is open to the first 100 to complete registration. If registration is at capacity, please register for the Wait List so we can fill spots that open up, and gauge interest in the training to determine when to offer the next training.

***IMPORTANT*** Before registering, please check with the county or counties you wish to work to determine if there are any education or experience prerequisites. Each county is different. The GAL Administrator for each county works in the Superior Court office of that county. Contact information for the courts is listed here:  https://www.courts.wa.gov/court_dir/?fa=court_dir.county.

We are still finalizing the schedule and speakers. It is anticipated that the days will run from approximately 9:00 am – 4:00 pm with a lunch break, and frequent shorter breaks. 

Registration is $395. Limited financial assistance is available. If full or partial scholarship is needed, please email Joanne Sprague at Training@KitsapLegalServices.org, with a brief explanation of why financial assistance is needed, by March 1.

About one week before the training, you will receive the Zoom links, agenda, and supporting materials. 

Electronic copies of the course materials will be provided for free. The course materials contain about 400 pages and fit into a 3 inch binder. If you prefer to purchase paper copies of the materials you can do so at anytime, including after the training. Please order by March 1 if you want to receive paper copies prior to the first day of training.

This training is pending CLE credits for WSBA members.

April 23 and 24, 2025 – 2025 Washington Training for Court Visitors and Guardians ad Litem: The Uniform Guardianship Act as it Relates to Minors

This training/CLE is for those needing certification under the Minor Guardianship/Uniform Guardianship Act (RCW 11.130). This training uses the curriculum developed by the Washington Department of Social and Health Services. 

Registration is open to the first 100 to complete registration. If registration is at capacity, please register for the Wait List so we can fill spots that open up, and gauge interest in the training to determine when to offer the next training.

Registration fee is $250.

COMING SOON – 2024 Title 26 GAL Recertification Training/CLE

This training/CLE is for those needing ongoing training to maintain their Title 26 GAL Certification or attorneys needing CLE credits. This training has been approved by Kitsap County Superior Court as the annual training required by Kitsap County Local Guardian ad Litem Rule 2(b)(5)(viii).

If you are a Title 26 GAL in a county other than Kitsap, please check with your county’s GAL Administrator to make sure that this training meets any required continuing education obligations.
